ANALISIS GAYA BAHASA DAN ISU KEMANUSIAAN PADA KUMPULAN CERPEN “AKHIR SANG GAJAH DI BUKIT KUPU-KUPU” KARYA SASTI GOTAMA SERTA RELEVANSINYA SEBAGAI BAHAN AJAR DI SMA

Abstract

This study aims to analyze language styles and humanitarian issues in the short story collection Akhir Sang Gajah di Bukit Kupu-Kupu by Sasti Gotama and to examine their relevance as Indonesian language teaching material for senior high school. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a content-analysis design. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and analyzed by identifying, classifying, interpreting, and describing textual data according to the categories of language style and humanitarian issues used in the study. The analysis of twenty short stories identified 305 language-style data consisting of comparison, contradiction, linkage, and emphasis, with specific forms including association, metaphor, personification, allegory, correction, hyperbole, litotes, irony, paradox, metonymy, synecdoche, allusion, euphemism, alliteration, assonance, antanaclasis, tautotes, climax, anticlimax, and rhetorical expression. The study also found 316 humanitarian-issue data classified into truth, peace, love, behavior, and nonviolence. The findings show that the language styles function not merely as aesthetic devices but also as means of strengthening characterization, atmosphere, conflict, and meaning. The humanitarian issues portray human experiences involving suffering, loss, violence, affection, injustice, empathy, and relationships between humans and other living beings. Based on the criteria of validity, usefulness, attractiveness, and suitability for students’ abilities, the findings are relevant to be developed as Indonesian language teaching material in senior high school, particularly for literary appreciation and critical interpretation.  language style, humanitarian issues, short stories, teaching material, literary appreciation.
